Description

Sefina is a novel insecticide from BASF containing Afidopyropen. It belongs to the new Pyropene chemical class and is classified under IRAC Group 9D. It provides effective control of sucking pests such as jassids, whiteflies and aphids by rapidly stopping their feeding activity.

Mode of Action

Sefina acts as a TRPV channel modulator. It affects the chordotonal organs of insects, causing disorientation and loss of coordination, followed by cessation of feeding and eventual death.

Application Method

Foliar spray. Apply at the initiation of pest infestation and ensure thorough coverage of the crop. Where a second spray is recommended, BASF advises an interval of about 10 days.

• Brinjal: 1000 ml/ha
• Cotton: 1000 ml/ha
• Cucumber: 700–1000 ml/ha

BASF's current product page also gives crop-specific application rates such as 400 ml/acre for cotton and brinjal and 80 ml/acre for aphids in potato, so the label/pack instructions for the specific registered crop should be followed.
